Michael Fowler, cello

About Michael Fowler

Eighteen-year-old Michael Fowler is a promising young Canadian cellist who lives in Montréal.

Michael has won recognition regionally and nationally in several prestigious competitions, including Gold (2023) and Silver (2022) Medals in the CANIMEX Canadian Music Competition, and Second Prize in the Festival concours de musique classique de Pierre-De Saurel (2022). He was also selected to play Tchaikovsky’s Pezzo Capriccioso as soloist with the orchestra at the Camp Musical des Laurentides.

An avid orchestral musician, Michael will return to Orchestre Fidelio in 2024 as principal cellist, and he is also principal cellist at the Orchestre Symphonique des Jeunes de Montréal.  In 2022 Michael was one of only a handful of CÉGEP students to be admitted to play in the McGill Symphony Orchestra at the Schulich School of Music.

Michael has also donated his talents towards charitable causes, most notably a solo concert in 2023 to raise funds to support the arts in Ukraine, and he recently joined renowned cellist Stéphane Tétreault to perform a duo at a fundraiser for the École de musique Vincent d'Indy.

He has been fortunate to study with several exceptional cello teachers: Elinor Frey, Julie Trudeau, and - most recently - with Yegor Dyachkov.
